Gaz-System has chosen Solidarity as the name for the first FSRU vessel to be located in the Gulf of Gdansk.
The company is building the FSRU terminal to enable the import of LNG from virtually anywhere in the world, increasing the flexibility of the gas system in both Poland and the Baltic Sea region, starting in 2028.
"Poland's first floating regasification terminal (FSRU) not only symbolizes its growing importance in Central and Eastern Europe but also represents collective cooperation in the face of common threats, especially those from the East. Poland has become a regional leader in the energy sector. We are developing state-of-the-art gas and fuel infrastructure, while also expanding renewable energy capacity and launching the country's first nuclear reactors. The FSRU Solidarity terminal will constitute a fundamental pillar within our shared security architecture, protecting our interests along with those of neighboring countries," stated Milosz Motyka, Polish Minister of Energy.
"Europe has learned from the crises of recent years. Energy security cannot be taken for granted; it requires a sustained and forward-looking approach, as well as planned capital allocation. The FSRU terminal in the Gulf of Gdansk strengthens the security of Poland and our partners in the region, while the name Solidarity aptly reflects the idea inspiring this project: the conviction that Europe's resilience is based on collective effort," emphasized Wojciech Wrochna, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy and Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure.
The FSRU Solidarity terminal, built at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea and chartered by Gaz-System from the Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) Group, will provide regasification services in the Gulf of Gdansk for the next 15 years.
