Three Deaths Confirmed in Hantavirus Outbreak Aboard Oceanwide Cruise Ship
Oceanwide Expeditions confirmed three deaths and additional medical cases following a hantavirus outbreak aboard the Hondius during a crossing from Ushuaia, Argentina, to Praia, Cape Verde. Epidemiological testing indicated the virus originated from a South American source, not aboard the vessel. The company coordinated with medical organizations, maritime and aviation authorities, and national governments to disembark all passengers and crew. Oceanwide sanitized the vessel before returning it to Arctic service.
