AD Ports Group and Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) have signed an agreement to enhance EGA's exclusive terminal at Khalifa Port, United Arab Emirates. The entities will jointly invest USD 22.8 million in a multi-phase quay improvement program.
This project aims to modernize the port infrastructure dedicated to EGA and accommodate Newcastlemax class dry bulk vessels, which can carry 15% to 20% more cargo than the Capesize vessels currently berthing at EGA's quay. The improvements will further increase quay productivity, operational efficiency, and overall cargo handling performance.
Once the works, scheduled for completion by August 2028, are concluded, the enhanced quay is expected to handle approximately 8 million tons of bulk cargo annually. The project will also increase operational flexibility by allowing for the installation of additional unloading facilities.
Furthermore, the optimization program includes improvements to the existing coping beam, the installation of new bollards and fenders, the extension of crane beams and foundations, the provision of additional utility connections, and dredging works.
Together, these enhancements will facilitate the safe and efficient berthing of larger draft vessels, while supporting the anticipated increase in future bulk handling volumes.
Saif Al Mazrouei, CEO of the Ports Cluster at AD Ports Group, stated that "this agreement underscores our commitment to investing in world-class port infrastructure that supports the continuous growth of the UAE's industrial and commercial sectors. It also reinforces our strategic partnership with Emirates Global Aluminium, a global leader in premium aluminum and one of the nation's most important industrial champions. Through collaborative long-term investment, we are enhancing the capabilities of critical commercial infrastructure, while enabling our partners to grow and compete more effectively on the global stage. These alliances remain fundamental to AD Ports Group's strategy and continue to support our profitable growth as a leading trade facilitator in global markets."
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), declared that "Khalifa Port is a strategic gateway for EGA's global operations. This collaboration with AD Ports Group will strengthen the long-term capacity, efficiency, and performance of our exclusive quay at Khalifa Port, ensuring the safe and reliable handling of essential raw materials for our operations. The project will further enhance our ability to produce the high-quality aluminum that makes modern life possible and supports industries worldwide."
This collaboration adds to the long-standing strategic partnership between AD Ports Group and EGA, and reflects their shared focus on operational excellence, infrastructure resilience, and sustainable industrial growth.
