The intense storm affecting the southern part of the country has completely closed the facility managed by San Vicente Terminal Internacional (SVTI). Operations are suspended, and no vessels are docked at the pier due to extreme weather conditions.
The combination of unusually strong winds and swells caused the displacement of a stack of empty containers in the storage area.
Regarding this incident, SVTI stated that the situation is contained and under permanent monitoring by the terminal's operational team. The containers will be repositioned when weather conditions allow for safe maneuvers.
It should be noted that no personal injuries occurred as a result of this incident, according to the company's statement to this media outlet.
SVTI added that it activated a contingency plan to address the climatic event, which includes adjustments in container storage, special safeguards in warehouses, and restriction of operations in the most exposed areas of the terminal.
The concessionaire emphasized that these measures aim to ensure the integrity of the facilities and keep the situation under control while the storm persists.
It is expected that, starting at 23:59 on Wednesday, the bad weather front will force the suspension of operations in the ports of the Valparaíso Region. Shipping schedules have already been updated, and no vessels are currently scheduled.
