The Port of Helsinki (Finland) announced the renovation of Lj6 pier at the West substation. The works will be carried out under an agreement reached with the contractor Terrame Oy for an amount of 23.9 million euros.
Details of these future arrangements were provided on the Finnish maritime facility's website, where it was reported that "construction work will begin in July 2026 and conclude in 2028. The project will be carried out amidst the daily operations of Finland's busiest passenger port."
Adding that "the contract includes the demolition of the existing pier, dredging work, the manufacturing and installation of new pier sections, and the acquisition and installation of equipment for the pier."
"The main works in the pier area will begin in August, once Tallink's passenger and car ferry M/S Victoria I has moved to the adjacent LJ8 pier," the publication stated.
Furthermore, it was specified that "the construction work will also involve a considerable amount of pile driving, which will cause occasional noise disturbances in the surrounding area during the most active phases of the project. Measures will be taken to minimize the acoustic impact through the organization and planning of the works."
In this regard, Ari Parvialne, director of the renovation project, assured that "this is an exceptionally demanding project from both a technical and logistical point of view. The port operates normally at all times, and there is a constant flow of passengers and goods right next to the construction area."
