The Ecuadorian National Police managed to seize 2.5 tons of cocaine that were intended to be sent in a container to Europe from Puerto Bolívar.
The operation was carried out by the National Anti-Drug Investigation Directorate, within the framework of the 3D Operational Strategy, aimed at weakening, disorganizing, and dismantling criminal structures linked to drug trafficking.
During the procedure, executed with the support of units from the Special Mobile Anti-Narcotics Group (Gema), the Regional Canine Training Center (Crac), and Criminalistics, police personnel inspected a container in the port facilities, where they detected that it had been contaminated with substances classified as subject to control.
The drug was hidden among fruit cartons and was destined for the European continent. As a result of the intervention, 2,493 packages were seized, which, after being subjected to Homologated Preliminary Identification Tests (PIPH), tested positive for cocaine hydrochloride with a total weight of 2,488 kilograms.
Specifically, 230,030 doses were removed from the illicit market, which had an estimated value in the Ecuadorian market of USD 6,650,000, USD 87,690,000 in the US market, and USD 136,650,000 in the European market.
"With this operation, the Ecuadorian National Police reaffirms its commitment to combating international drug trafficking through investigative and operational actions that allow affecting criminal economies and preventing large quantities of illicit substances from reaching international markets," the institution stated.
