The international terminal operator KN Energies secured a contract from Gaz-System to provide commercial and operational advisory services for the FSRU project in the Gulf of Gdansk, Poland.
The first phase of the terminal, based on a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), will receive sea-borne LNG, regasify it, and supply natural gas to Poland's transmission system. It is expected to provide up to 6.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, with commissioning planned for 2028. In March 2026, Gaz-System launched the FSRU 2 tender, aiming to increase the regasification capacity of the FSRU terminal in the Gulf of Gdansk.
KN Energies' role will include commercial and operational advisory services for the FSRU project, leveraging the company's experience in floating LNG infrastructure, acquired through the long-term operation of the Klaipeda LNG terminal and participation in multiple FSRU and floating terminal projects across Europe.
The development of the Gulf of Gdansk floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) is of strategic importance for Poland and the wider Baltic Sea region, as it aims to strengthen gas supply diversification and long-term energy security.
"This selection highlights the growing need for rapid solutions for energy supply diversification and confirms KN Energies' expertise as a leader in complex floating LNG projects across Europe. With over 15 years of experience in FSRU projects globally, from the development phase to long-term terminal operations, we are proud to share our knowledge with our partners in Poland," stated Linas Kilda, Head of Business Development at KN Energies.
In addition to the Klaipeda LNG terminal, there are currently 14 floating LNG terminals in operation or under construction in the European Union. KN Energies has been involved in or is participating in projects related to 8 of these terminals, representing approximately 57% of all such projects in the EU, covering project development, commercial structuring, operational advisory, and long-term terminal management.
