Cool Carriers, the world's largest operator of specialized reefer vessels, has received the Snow Flake, the second unit in its new-generation Snow series.
The christening ceremony was attended by Mikhail Ganyushin, CEO of Cool Carriers, and Nikolay Pavlyuchenko, General Manager of Unireefer, Cool Carriers' general agent in Ecuador, Peru, and Argentina, who performed the traditional champagne toast.
In this way, the Snow Flake follows the company's tradition of naming units of the Snow class under the design and identity of its initial fleet of specialized reefer vessels.
Cool Carriers will manage the Snow class vessels as a commercial operator. Specifically designed for the global market, each ship can safely transport up to 5,000 pallets of perishable goods and 168 refrigerated containers, at a service speed of 18 knots.
Two of the vessels in the series have a cargo volume exceeding 630,000 cubic feet, while the remaining five offer approximately 660,000 cubic feet.
The vessels incorporate advanced hull and propulsion designs, including energy-efficient engines that comply with strict IMO and EU environmental regulations until 2030 and beyond, contributing to improved operational efficiency and reduced environmental impact.
Snow Flake and Snow Flower are the first two of the seven new-generation Snow class vessels scheduled for delivery by 2028, with an additional ship expected to join the fleet by the end of 2026.
Glenn Selling, COO of Cool Carriers, said that "with the addition of the Snow Flake to our commercial operations, we continue the modernization of our fleet through cutting-edge naval design and engineering. These high-capacity vessels strengthen our position on key refrigerated transport routes, such as Chile, Ecuador, South Africa, and Argentina."
"The Snow class represents the next stage in the evolution of our specialized fleet, allowing us to meet the growing needs of our customers for efficient, reliable, and sustainable transport, while consolidating our leadership in the global specialized refrigerated transport market," he added.
During the remaining summer months, the Snow Flake will continue its journey from Japan to New Zealand before heading to Europe, where it will call at ports in Spain and Italy.
With the entry into service of the new Snow class vessels, the company's refrigerated cargo capacity will continue to increase, with each vessel capable of carrying up to 14,000 combined pallets, both below deck and in refrigerated containers.
Cool Carriers operates on the world's main refrigerated trade routes, including the New Zealand to Europe route for kiwi, Chile to the United States, banana exports from Ecuador, and increasing volumes from South Africa and Argentina to Europe.
