The works for the fourth and final stage of recalification of the protection dike at the Suape Industrial Port Complex have reached 42% completion. Started in October 2024, the intervention is progressing on schedule.
The project will expand the protection of the outer port and contribute to the safety of operations carried out at the Liquid Bulk Piers, which are responsible for the movement of oil, derivatives, fuels, and other liquid bulk operated in the complex.
"The dike is an essential structure for the functioning of the outer port. Its recalification enhances navigation safety and maritime operations, in addition to preserving a strategic infrastructure for port activity," stated the director-president of the Suape Complex, Armando Monteiro Bisneto.
The intervention covers 1.8 kilometers of the breakwater. For the reconstruction of the structure, rocks weighing between 300 kilograms and 12 tons are being used, mobilized by heavy equipment and positioned according to technical criteria of maritime engineering to withstand the action of waves, currents, and tides.
The total investment is USD 22.1 million, of which USD 13.1 million comes from state resources and USD 9 million from the federal government.
According to the Director of Engineering and Works at Suape, Renata Loyo, the execution requires permanent planning due to the characteristics of the work.
"Interventions in a maritime environment demand continuous monitoring of operational conditions, precision in execution, and specialized equipment. Even during the rainy season, it was possible to maintain the planned schedule by employing equipment compatible with this type of operation," she highlighted.
Infrastructure
The recovery of the dike is part of the set of infrastructure interventions underway at the Suape Complex. Between January and May 2026, the port handled 11.27 million tons of cargo, of which 7.45 million tons corresponded to liquid bulk. In the same period, 693 vessel calls were registered.
With completion expected by August 2028, the recalification of the equipment will increase the lifespan of the outer port's protection structure and contribute to maintaining the operational conditions of the Liquid Bulk Piers, which are responsible for a large part of the liquid bulk movement carried out in the complex.
