Hutchison Ports Best formalized the purchase of three new-generation Ship-to-Shore (STS) gantry cranes in a ceremony held jointly with the Vice President of ZPMC.
Guillermo Belcastro, CEO of Hutchison Ports Best, stated that "we are very proud to share the incorporation of these three new STS cranes with ZPMC, which has been a key supplier since Best's inception. With these investments, and with the arrival of two additional cranes in June, we consolidate our capacity to operate the world's largest vessels, while increasing our service level for all our clients. In this way, we reaffirm once again our leadership in efficiency, innovation, and sustainability in the Mediterranean."
This operation strengthens the collaboration between BEST and ZPMC, and also adds to the two additional cranes expected to arrive in June, which are currently in transit.
"This acquisition represents a new step in the terminal's growth strategy and reaffirms Best's commitment to operational excellence and the continuous improvement of its services. All new cranes will feature maximum capacity, with 55 meters under the spreader and a reach of 26 containers wide, which will allow for more efficient operation of the latest generation vessels," the company indicated in a public statement.
The incorporation of these new cranes will have a direct impact on various strategic areas for the terminal, as it will increase operational capacity to handle the latest generation megaships and absorb larger traffic volumes, following the new demands of international maritime transport.
Along with this, the aim will be to increase quay productivity, favoring more agile operations; and a general optimization of loading and unloading times.
