In line with its permanent commitment to operational excellence and supply chain resilience, the Logistics Extension and Support Zone (ZEAL Extraportuario) has consolidated a high-end comprehensive security system in its Valparaíso facilities.
"The model, designed under strict technological standards, is aimed at guaranteeing protection, prevention, and efficiency in each of the cargo flows that transit to the region's maritime terminals. ZEAL's security ecosystem operates uninterruptedly 24 hours a day, 365 days a year," communicated the logistics operator belonging to the Azvi Group of Spain.
The infrastructure is equipped with a technological contingent that includes closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, perimeter infrared fences, facial recognition, and optical character recognition (OCR) technology, which proactively mitigates risks associated with the logistics chain.
In this regard, ZEAL's Security Chief, Arnoldo Jara, highlighted that "ZEAL has an entire technological system to support the security of the facility and its cargo. The system itself practically aims to prevent infiltrations, robberies, thefts, and detect individuals who want to enter the facility to commit an illicit act. In addition, it allows us to prevent or timely detect any incident affecting the facility."
In the event of any anomaly detected within the 30-hectare perimeter of the enclosure, ZEAL maintains direct and real-time coordination with police authorities and Chilean foreign trade regulatory bodies.
"In suspicious situations, we communicate directly with security guards who are available for this type of contingency. They go directly to verify the event on site. We validate and cross-reference the situation on the ground and immediately notify the regulatory bodies, whether Customs, and if necessary, the Investigative Police or Carabineros," Jara added regarding the company's response protocols.
The operational control of the facility is subdivided into two strategic monitoring units: a main base and another located in the Mandatory Activities Zone (ZAO), an area where joint inspections are carried out with state agencies such as the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG).
In this node, the operations team works hand in hand with the Port Logistics System (Silogport), linked to the Valparaíso Port Company (EPV), to meticulously supervise the terrestrial flow of trucks.
Jaime Mondaca, Head of Operations for the ZAO, detailed that "our system is directly linked to Silogport, in which each truck that enters has a biometric control of the driver as the first link, who must have a prior registration to be able to enter the port. Subsequently, everything related to the cargo, the documentation, and the inspection is verified, advancing in the process until it is fully available to descend to the port terminals."
According to Mondaca, this synergy between advanced technology and access control eliminates information blind spots in the national supply chain. "Every truck that enters is identified with total clarity, both the driver and the vehicle. We know exactly which port operation it is coming to, what cargo it is coming to pick up, and who is collecting it. Therefore, the cargo has complete end-to-end traceability," he noted.
"With this solid technological and guild consolidation, ZEAL Extraportuario is reaffirmed as the most critical link of resilience and safeguard in the central macro-zone, offering importers, exporters, and international shipowners the maximum guarantee of security and continuity for the country's foreign trade," concluded the statement from the concessionaire of the Port of Valparaíso.
