Sesco Cement celebrated the inauguration of its new cement import terminal located in Port Redwing, at Port Tampa Bay, representing the company's commitment to Florida's construction industry and the Tampa Bay region. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by company executives, state officials, and representatives from the construction and maritime industries.
The new facilities feature the largest operational wheeled cement unloader, storage silos with a capacity of nearly 100,000 tons, and an advanced mobile conveyor belt system. Once completed, the terminal will be Florida's largest cement terminal, positioning the Tampa Bay region as a strategic point for the global supply of construction materials.
"As a key partner in the region's construction and infrastructure supply chain, Sesco Cement plays a critical role in supporting continued growth in west-central Florida and reinforces Tampa's growing importance as a gateway for global construction materials," stated Rick Van Eyk, CEO of Sesco Cement.
"The inauguration is the culmination of years of investment, engineering, and collaboration, and we are proud to call Port Tampa Bay our home in Florida," added Van Eyk.
The Port Tampa Bay terminal is strategically located to serve Florida's major construction markets via sea routes, interstate highways, and rail networks. Sesco anticipates the transportation of significant quantities of cement, supplementary cementitious materials, and aggregates through the terminal.
The custom-designed ship unloader for the terminal arrived in Tampa earlier this year after a 25-day journey, where it was assembled after nearly two years of engineering and design. The successful delivery and installation of the unloader paved the way for the commencement of the terminal's large-scale operations, which began immediately.
"At Port Tampa Bay, we are proud to welcome Sesco Cement as an operating partner. This terminal strengthens our position as a hub for construction materials and underscores the critical role Port Tampa Bay plays in meeting the infrastructure needs of Florida's more than 23 million residents. The efficient transportation of cement and other essential construction materials through our port is crucial for driving continued growth and development in west-central Florida and beyond," stated Raul Alfonso, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Port Tampa Bay.
Sesco Cement, founded in 2014 as a subsidiary of Grupo Sesco, operates one of the most important cement terminal networks in the United States. Its plant in Houston, Texas, is the largest individually owned cement terminal in the country. The company serves customers in the construction, manufacturing, and distribution sectors, including ready-mix concrete producers.
