Works continue to re-establish international railway flow between Argentina and Brazil. This involves the section connecting Paso de los Libres (Argentina) and the Brazilian station in Uruguaiana, corresponding to the Urquiza line.
Specifically, it has been reported that "the works include tasks to recover the railway infrastructure, clear the tracks, and remove intrusions that hindered the passage of trains. Meanwhile, Brazil is expected to advance with similar interventions to complete the rehabilitation of the corridor."
The works are being financed by the Mercosur Structural Convergence Fund (Focem), which has already "completed the first disbursement for the works, totaling USD 4.44 million, corresponding to the first stage of financing. In total, the regional body will contribute USD 29.8 million, while Argentina will invest another USD 14.6 million as a counterpart."
"The program includes the recovery of 210 kilometers of tracks, the renovation of two railway bridges, and improvements in different sections of the Urquiza Line in the provinces of Entre Ríos, Corrientes, and Misiones, strengthening the railway connection with Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay," it was reported.
Finally, it was communicated that "the works also aim to facilitate the transport of agricultural products, cement, cellulose pulp, and other cargo, strengthening commercial exchange between both countries."
"As of now, a date for the return of international services has not been confirmed, as the operationalization will depend on the completion of works on both sides of the border," it was added.
