On Wednesday, July 8, the United States completed a new round of attacks against Iranian positions, aiming to "further degrade Iran's ability to attack commercial shipping and innocent civilian mariners in the Strait of Hormuz," according to a statement from U.S. Central Command (Centcom).
"U.S. forces attacked approximately 90 Iranian military targets, including air defense systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities, and military logistical infrastructure along Iran's coast. These latest attacks follow the successful execution of offensives in Iran the previous night," the unified U.S. command specified.
"Centcom forces hit approximately 80 Iranian military targets on July 7, including more than 60 smaller vessels of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, to impose a high cost on Iran for violating the ceasefire by attacking three commercial vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz," it added.
It is worth remembering that the United States Government revoked the general license that allowed Iran to sell oil in international markets. Washington's decision was made after Iranian attacks against three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
The direct trigger for the North American nation's economic and military offensive was the aggression suffered by the vessels Al Rekayyat, flagged in the Marshall Islands; the Wedyan, flagged in Saudi Arabia; and the Cyprus Prosperity, belonging to Liberia's ship registry.
