Underground Cable Conduits for Shore Power in Porto Corsini

The North-Central Adriatic Sea Port System Authority has completed a significant phase of the works related to the construction of a grid connection station that will serve the Porto Corsini Cruise Terminal. The work, which began last April and covered a long stretch of Via Trieste, has finished the installation and burial of the conduits that will house the cables necessary to supply electricity to the new power supply station of the cruise terminal.

Following the suspension of operations, which will last until mid-September approximately to avoid affecting traffic from coastal towns, work will resume next autumn in a smaller area to complete the connections of the entire newly built underground infrastructure.

Thanks in part to this project, the Port of Ravenna strengthens its commitment to the port's energy transition. The electrification of the passenger terminal will allow cruise ships docked in Porto Corsini to turn off their combustion engines, thereby eliminating noise and atmospheric emissions during their stay at the dock.

This will be possible thanks to the electricity generated by the photovoltaic system that the Port Authority has built on the site of the former Sarom refinery. This project has enabled the comprehensive urban and environmental regeneration of a disused industrial area of 44 hectares.

A photovoltaic system with a total capacity of 37.16 MWp, capable of generating clean and emission-free energy, was completed and installed on approximately 34 hectares. The rest of the land has been recovered and transformed into a forest with ecological filtration and mitigation functions.

The construction of the power supply station and all related activities are financed with USD 38 million from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), and the system is estimated to be operational by the end of the year.
