The scheduled departure of the MV Hondius from the Port of Rotterdam to the Port of Vlissingen, in the Netherlands, was delayed following advice from the Rotterdam Civil Aviation Authority (GGD) for additional cleaning procedures. The cruise ship is currently at the terminal undergoing this process before resuming voyages, after having suffered a hanta virus outbreak that resulted in three deaths.
Crew members from the original voyage who were still on board were escorted to quarantine facilities, while the captain, Jan Dobrogowski, was transported to Poland in specialized transport. Dutch crew members have been returning to their homes for home quarantine according to established protocols.
GGD Rotterdam, in cooperation with Oceanwide Expeditions, wants to ensure that the vessel is safely ready to be returned to service. After completing these works, the GGD will conduct a final inspection before the ship can proceed with its departure.
Oceanwide Expeditions reported that, for now, all voyages from June 13 onwards will proceed as scheduled and no further alterations to the MV Hondius sailing schedule are expected.
