The cruise season at the Port of Taranto officially began with the arrival of the Costa Fascinosa and the Mein Schiff 5, a double call that signals the start of a brief but intense calendar, full of opportunities for the city and its surroundings.
Costa Cruises has confirmed a significant presence this year with 15 calls from this ship, confirming the Ionian port as its operational base for routes to the Greek islands, while TUI will be present in Taranto with four calls from its fifth ship.
Taranto Cruise Port is also preparing to welcome P&O, which has five visits scheduled with its ship Azura. Among the most anticipated arrivals are two luxury cruises, Azamara Onward, from Azamara, and Wind Surf, from Windstar.
Cruise traffic represents a strategic driver for Taranto's economy, capable of generating broad benefits for the local area and the entire port services sector, while contributing to a different image as an attractive and welcoming tourist destination.
Taranto Cruise Port continues its development program with determination, with the construction of its new cruise terminal at Molo San Cataldo, which will begin in 2026, focusing on innovation and environmental sustainability to consolidate its presence in the cruise industry.
In this way, the terminal, managed by Global Ports Holding (GPH), aims to modernize its infrastructure to meet the highest standards in the sector, improve passenger services, raise hospitality standards, and ensure an increasingly efficient, comfortable, and high-quality terminal experience.
"The start of the new cruise season is a very special event for Taranto Cruise Port, as we welcome visitors from all over the world, and it is encouraging to know that we are tangibly contributing to the economic well-being of the entire port system and the area," said Raffaella Del Prete, General Manager of Taranto Cruise Port.
"The new cruise terminal that Taranto Cruise Port will begin constructing in October 2026, in time for the 2027 cruise season, will not only allow us to receive ships and their passengers in the best possible way but will also boost the economic development of the port, supporting tourism and strengthening the destination's position in the Mediterranean landscape," concluded Del Prete.
