SP-SSA International Terminal (SSIT) received the inaugural call of the new ZXB service, operated by ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, marking another important milestone in the port's strategy to expand international maritime connectivity within the Cai Mep – Thi Vai deep-water port cluster.
The first large vessel of the ZXB service to arrive at SSIT is the ZIM Mount Rainier, a state-of-the-art container ship flying the Singapore flag, notable for its size and advanced operational technology, in line with the global maritime industry's sustainable development trend.
The ZIM Mount Rainier measures 366 meters in length and has a capacity of 15,124 TEU, placing it among the large container ships currently operating on major international trade routes. Notably, the vessel runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG), one of the most advanced green energy solutions in today's shipping industry.
The new ZXB service offers direct cargo connectivity between important international ports, including Singapore, Cai Mep, Haiphong, Yantian, Xiamen, Kingston, Charleston, Savannah, New York, and Boston, thereby strengthening trade connectivity between Vietnam and key economic and logistical centers in Asia and the US East Coast. The selection of SSIT as one of the key ports within the service rotation reaffirms the terminal's operational capabilities, its strategic position, and its ability to receive large container ships within the global maritime transport network.
Phan Hoang Vu, General Director of SSIT, stated that "the SSIT team sincerely appreciates the trust placed by ZIM in choosing SSIT as the terminal for the ZXB service. Our cooperation with ZIM, which began in 2025, has continuously strengthened, and the introduction of the ZXB service with regular calls at SSIT represents a significant advancement. This milestone comes at a time of rapid evolution in the maritime sector, especially on trade routes between Vietnam and the United States. The successful handling of the LNG-powered mega container ship ZIM Mount Rainier, reflects our joint commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly maritime development in Vietnam. We also wish to express our gratitude to the entire ZIM team for their unwavering cooperation, professionalism, and collaboration, which have made the success of this service possible."
Founded in 2006, SP-SSA International Terminal (SSIT) is a joint venture between SSA Marine (USA), Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC), and Saigon Port, located in the lower Cai Mep – Thi Vai area, Ho Chi Minh City.
