The Ro-Ro passenger ferry Kissamos refloated after running aground off Milos, Greece, in the early hours of 27 June. No injuries or pollution were reported.
The ferry was operating its scheduled service from Piraeus to Chania with 1,246 passengers and 108 crew members on board when it suffered a technical fault that caused a temporary loss of propulsion. The ferry drifted into shallow waters near the port of Milos and eventually grounded.
The Hellenic Coast Guard dispatched a response team to the scene, while the diver conducted an underwater inspection and found no damage to the vessel's hull. After the crew restored propulsion, the ferry successfully refloated under its own power and returned safely to Milos.
Upon arrival in Milos, the port authorities detained the vessel pending a seaworthiness inspection and an investigation into the cause of the power failure.
Kissamos is a Greece-flagged Ro-Ro passenger ferry built in 1992. The vessel measures 192 meters in length and 27 meters in width.
