HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries delivered the penultimate unit in a series of 12 twin methanol-powered container ships for CMA CGM. The shipping company placed the order in 2023, according to Alphaliner.
Specifically, the French company received the CMA CGM Copper, which is 335 meters long, 51 meters wide (equivalent to 20 rows), has a deadweight of 147,200 tons, and a draft of 15.5 meters.
The unit is powered by a MAN B&W 7G95ME-C10.5 engine, which develops a power of approximately 43,000 kW. The vessel can reach speeds of just under 21 knots.
"After sailing from Qingdao on June 24, CMA CGM deployed its newest vessel on the Asia – West Coast of South America (ACSA 1) route, which it operates jointly with Cosco Shipping Lines (WSA4) and Orient Overseas Container Line (TLP2)," the consultant reported.
"On the ACSA 1 service, the CMA CGM Copper will join its sister ship CMA CGM Platinum, while three other methanol dual-fuel vessels of the Elements class will gradually join during July and August," it added.
The CMA CGM container ships in this series "are very well suited for South American trade, as they offer significant capacity for refrigerated cargo with their 2,100 connections," Alphaliner noted.
