The Port of Itaqui received a visit from the International Association for Port Development (IAPorts), represented by its Executive Director, Raquel Kibrit. The meeting aimed to strengthen the alliance between both institutions and coordinate initiatives focused on port innovation, sustainable development, and expanding the presence of the Maranhão port complex internationally.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Maranhão Port Administration Company (EMAP) and was attended by authorities linked to the Itaqui port complex, as well as representatives from partner ports. During the meeting, opportunities for international cooperation, attracting strategic investments, and projects aimed at modernizing and increasing the competitiveness of the port sector were discussed.
The President of EMAP, Oquerlina Costa, highlighted that the alliance with IAPorts reinforces the Port of Itaqui's internationalization strategy and expands development opportunities for Maranhão. "These meetings consolidate our objective of establishing the port complex as a world-renowned logistics hub. Our strategic location allows for a direct connection with markets in Asia, Europe, and North America. This integration is fundamental to strengthening Brazilian foreign trade and expanding our international competitiveness," she stated.
The alliance expands opportunities for port development. IAPorts, a partner of the Port of Itaqui for two years, works to promote sustainable port development, connecting its members with opportunities for technical cooperation, innovation, and strategic investments in different countries.
For Kibrit, the close relationship with the Port of Itaqui strengthens dialogue among key players in the Brazilian logistics sector and expands the region's development potential. "For us, this connection with the main port leaders of Maranhão is extremely important, as it allows us to analyze the best strategies to promote the region internationally. We recognize the importance of this logistics hub for the state and are committed to further strengthening this institutional bond," she emphasized.
Cooperation with international institutions drives its growth as one of Brazil's main port complexes. Located in the Northern Arc, the port plays a strategic role in the flow of Brazilian agricultural and mineral production, directly serving the Matopiba region and connecting the country with the world's main consumer markets.
The Port of Itaqui is one of the main departure points for commodities such as soybeans, corn, fertilizers, and wood pulp. Integration with the national railway network optimizes logistical efficiency, ensuring greater competitiveness for Brazilian exports and reducing transport costs.
In addition to managing cargo related to agribusiness, the port complex is also a national benchmark in liquid bulk cargo operations, playing an essential role in supplying fuels and petroleum products to the states in the North and Northeast regions.
The strengthening of the alliance with IAPorts reaffirms the Port of Itaqui's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the search for solutions that enhance its competitiveness and consolidate its position as one of Brazil's main logistics hubs.
