CMA CGM christened the CMA CGM Roi Arthur, a new 15,000 TEU methanol-powered containership.
The vessel will join the weekly Red Sea Express 2 (REX2) service, where it will operate alongside eight other ships to connect major ports in Asia and Southeast Asia with the Red Sea and the Middle East.
"Our new 15,000 TEU methanol-powered vessel has been officially christened and is ready to begin its journey on the high seas. By joining our REX2 service, the vessel strengthens our state-of-the-art fleet, designed to drive the decarbonization of maritime transport," the French shipping company announced.
"Its methanol propulsion contributes to reducing atmospheric emissions and advancing the industry's energy transition. True to maritime tradition, the ship was welcomed by its captain, Mr. Roman Didenko, and its godmother, Ms. Sun Lijun, Vice President of Tianjin Bridge Welding Materials Co., Ltd. Group and Vice President of the Tianjin Women Entrepreneurs Association," it added.
The route on which the CMA CGM Roi Arthur will be incorporated provides direct access for import, export, and transshipment operations at key hubs such as Djibouti, Sokhna, and Jeddah.
Additionally, the network strategically connects the Red Sea with Abu Dhabi, facilitating intra-regional transport in the Middle East and streamlining shipments to Europe from the Port of Jeddah, all complemented by a dedicated feeder network to cover other secondary destinations in the region.
To support this operation, the company deploys a varied fleet of containerships ranging from feeder units to large-scale megaships. The recent integration of the CMA CGM Esmeralda is also noteworthy.
This fleet, which also includes larger vessels such as the CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin (17,859 TEU) or the CMA CGM Apollon (15,536 TEU), aims to ensure operational support and refrigerated cargo capacity throughout the corridor.
