Incat Crowther has commenced construction of a new 48-meter passenger catamaran, custom-designed for the US operator Hy-Line Cruises.
The new vessel, built by Midship Marine in Louisiana, will operate on Hy-Line Cruises' key tourist and commercial routes connecting Hyannis, Massachusetts, with the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.
With the capacity to transport up to 493 passengers across three spacious decks, the vessel can reach speeds exceeding 30 knots and has been specifically designed for the unique local conditions experienced off the coast of Cape Cod.
The vessel is powered by four Cummins QSK60-M Tier 4 engines driving four Hamilton HTX65 waterjet propulsion units, complying with US emission standards for domestic ferry operations. The drivetrain system incorporates composite shafts supplied by Driveline Service of Portland, reducing weight and maintenance requirements. The aluminum hull and superstructure construction supports the vessel's performance objectives, ensuring efficient and safe operations, and incorporates active stability control technology supplied by Naiad.
Hy-Line Cruises President, Murray Scudder, stated that "the new Incat Crowther-designed vessel is perfectly suited to our specific operational needs. Incat Crowther's deep understanding of our business and the success of other vessels they designed in our fleet made collaborating with Incat Crowther on this project the right decision. Working closely with their team of naval architects, we are confident that the new vessel, currently under construction, will meet the highest standards of safety and operation, while providing our passengers with an exceptional experience on one of America's most iconic ferry routes."
Construction of the new vessel is expected to be completed by 2028.
