The Regional Port Authority has authorized Contecon Manzanillo to receive vessels with a draft of up to 15.5 meters, a condition that expands the terminal's operational scope and will allow it to serve larger vessels participating in the world's main trade routes.
With this authorization, the port operator becomes the only terminal at the Port of Manzanillo with this operational condition, consolidating its position to receive large capacity container ships, including Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs), vessels that can transport up to 24,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
"This authorization represents a strategic step for the development of our terminal and confirms that the investments made in infrastructure respond to the evolution of international maritime transport. It is also the first step towards our goal of achieving an operational draft of 17 meters, the design draft of our new docks, which will allow us to receive vessels with more cargo, strengthen the competitiveness of the Port of Manzanillo, and offer greater capacities to our clients," said José Antonio Contreras, CEO of Contecon Manzanillo.
The incorporation of larger vessels responds to a global transformation of the maritime sector, driven by the search for more efficient and sustainable operations. These container ships integrate technologies that optimize fuel consumption, reduce emissions, and strengthen the performance of logistics chains.
