Huajing LNG Transport, a joint venture with NYK participating, held a christening ceremony for a new LNG carrier for the CNOOC Group, a Chinese state-owned energy company, at the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding shipyards, which was named Greenergy River. The ceremony was attended by Hironobu Watanabe, Senior Managing Executive Officer of NYK, and other related individuals.
HLT is a joint venture formed by NYK; CNOOC Gas and Power Singapore Trading & Marketing, a subsidiary of the CNOOC Group; CETS Investment Management (HK) and CMES LNG Project 4 Company, a subsidiary of the shipping company China Merchants Energy Shipping.
The unit is the first in a series of six LNG carriers that HLT will deploy for CNOOC SG within the framework of this project. It is also the first vessel of its kind built in China with NYK's participation that will be deployed under a long-term charter contract with a Chinese client.
Starting in August, the vessel will transport LNG acquired by the CNOOC Group from suppliers worldwide, primarily to China. The vessel will be managed by OPearl LNG Ship Management Company Limited, a ship management firm jointly established by NYK, CMES, and CETS.
The ship is equipped with a state-of-the-art, highly fuel-efficient dual-fuel engine, which uses fuel oil and boil-off gas (LNG vaporized in the cargo tanks during navigation) as fuel. This system allows for efficient navigation, contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and helps lessen the vessel's environmental impact.
The vessel has a cargo capacity of approximately 174,000 cubic meters; a length of 299 meters, a beam of 46.4 meters, and a main engine X-DF 2.1 iCER (dual-fuel low-speed diesel).
The core strategy of the NYK Group's medium-term management plan, "Sail Green, Drive Transformations 2026," is to deepen the holding's existing core businesses and invest in new growth businesses.
In its Energy Business Division, NYK has focused its reinforced efforts on the LNG/LPG carrier business, which the company has positioned as a growth area.
