ABB has signed an agreement to acquire Høglund, a maritime automation specialist based in Tønsberg, Norway. This acquisition will complement ABB's automation offering for customers in the maritime sector and support growth in various vessel segments.
The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, subject to customary regulatory approvals, and will include Høglund's global operations, with over 80 employees in Norway, Poland, Romania, and China.
The company currently belongs to Eitzen Group and will be integrated into ABB's Marine & Ports division. The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Høglund offers an Integrated Automation System (IAS) based on the hardware platform of ABB's 800M and S800 control systems. Designed for the demands of modern vessels, this modular and scalable system manages onboard automation, monitoring, and control tasks.
By combining data from engines, electric generators, and cargo systems, it contributes to improved safety, energy efficiency, and overall operational performance. The solution is installed on more than 600 vessels. The company recorded revenues of approximately USD 35 million in 2025.
Following the acquisition, Høglund customers will benefit from an expanded geographical presence, increased expertise in automation and services, and the global support offered by ABB.
"This is an important new chapter for our team and our technologies. Høglund's story is one of dedication and passion for the maritime industry, and we are proud of the experience and knowledge we have cultivated, as well as the solutions we have developed. Our system is based on ABB technology, and we look forward to joining ABB and continuing to drive maritime automation for the benefit of our customers," stated Peter Morsbach, CEO of Høglund.
"Høglund's portfolio of maritime automation solutions will complement ABB's current offering with proven and scalable solutions that support our growth ambitions. Thanks to our global reach and service capability, we have a strong foundation for continued success. We are pleased to welcome Høglund's highly skilled team to ABB," said Rune Braastad, President of ABB's Marine & Ports division.
