With the commitment to consolidate the Port of Iquique as a fundamental engine for the development of the Tarapacá Region, the new board of Empresa Portuaria Iquique (EPI) began a series of protocol and working meetings with regional and municipal authorities, as well as public-private stakeholders.
Led by the Chairman of the Board, Max Barrera, Vice President Ximena Cancino, and Director Sergio Telchi, accompanied by EPI General Manager Rubén Castro, they have developed an agenda aimed at involving and gaining the support of guilds, organizations, and public-private actors across the board.
Among the first instances of dialogue are meetings held with Senator Renzo Trisotti, the Regional Presidential Delegate of Tarapacá, Adriana Tapia; the Mayor of Iquique, Mauricio Soria; and the executive team of Iquique Terminal Internacional (ITI), the port's concessionaire, led by its General Manager, Rodrigo Pommiez.
"We will soon enter a tender process for the operation of the Port of Iquique. The current concession expires in 2030, and therefore, we are preparing for that. Together, we have discussed the need to generate a logistics policy for Tarapacá, which includes the Port of Iquique, the free trade zone, and all activities related to foreign trade," said Max Barrera.
This stance responds to the conviction that the future of the Port of Iquique requires a joint effort that transcends the purely port-related sphere and integrates harmoniously with the comprehensive growth of the city and the region.
During the meetings, EPI authorities addressed key strategic milestones for local industry and foreign trade. They highlighted the urgency of structuring a unified long-term strategy that represents a continuous line over time.
The objective is to transform Iquique into an international logistics center that goes beyond the current free trade zone model, integrating the port, transport, and public services into a large logistics chain, as a major project for the Tarapacá Region.
With these meetings, which will continue soon with other regional stakeholders, Empresa Portuaria Iquique reaffirms its coordinating role and its commitment to continue working collaboratively with local institutions to ensure the competitiveness, efficiency, and growth of the region's port and logistics activity.
