The Association of Ports of Angola (Apang) defined sustainability, digitalization, institutional cooperation, and human capital improvement as strategic pillars for the modernization and increased competitiveness of the national port system, during the VI Roundtable, held in Porto Amboim, Cuanza Sul province, under the theme "Port Sustainability and Digitalization."
Participants concluded that sustainability must integrate the environmental, economic, and social dimensions of port management, while digital transformation should contribute to greater operational efficiency, cost reduction, transparency, logistical integration, and competitiveness.
Among the main approved recommendations are the creation of specialized technical committees for Apang, the development of a National Port Digitalization Plan based on the pillars of people, processes, and technologies, and the strengthening of the interoperability of port Single Window (JUP) and Logistics Single Window (JUL) systems.
The creation of a Maritime-Port Statistical Observatory was also recommended, as well as the development of common sustainability policies focused on reducing the carbon footprint, energy efficiency, clean energy, and marine environment protection, and the strengthening of continuous training and digital skills for professionals in the sector.
The results also indicate that strengthening institutional cooperation and the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices are necessary conditions to address common challenges and accelerate the transformation of the maritime-port subsector.
The implementation of these recommendations should contribute to modernizing national ports, improving the integration of the logistics chain, and consolidating a culture of innovation, sustainability, and efficiency.
At the closing, it was unanimously proposed that the VII Apang Roundtable will be held in Namibe province, which should continue to monitor the approved measures and deepen cooperation in favor of a more sustainable, digital, integrated, and competitive national port system.
