Banana producers in the Bolivian tropics (Cochabamba) have been forced to discard their produce due to various roadblocks stemming from social protests against the Government led by President Rodrigo Paz. This cargo was destined for the markets of Argentina and Chile.
It has been reported that the banana growers unloaded their export fruit boxes from several trucks on the eastern highway in the Entre Ríos area.
In this regard, the president of the tropical banana producers, Agustín Conde, stated that "there are 12 trucks with bananas that we are discarding; we want humanitarian peace now."
The leader explained that the fruit was destined for international markets but lost its commercial value by not being able to reach export points on time.
Furthermore, Conde added, "we are debtors to the bank, we owe for fumigation planes, we owe for cardboard. This is the situation we are going through; we are very worried," he concluded.
