Ecuador is among the countries that have reactivated the trade of processed pork products from Spain, following the approval of a new sanitary certificate agreed upon by the competent authorities. The measure is part of the application of the principle of regionalization, which allows trade from African Swine Fever (ASF)-free zones, strengthening commercial exchange under international sanitary standards.
The agreement establishes that imported products must come exclusively from areas unaffected by the disease and comply with mitigation treatments recognized by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). This mechanism seeks to guarantee the safety of the products and maintain the continuity of agri-food trade between both countries.
The implementation of the new sanitary certificate expands supply options for the Ecuadorian market and strengthens commercial relations with Spain. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of international sanitary protocols to facilitate foreign trade, support logistical operations, and provide greater security to the supply chains of the agri-food sector.
