Amports, Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA), and Port Freeport announced a collaboration that brings increased automotive volume and integrated logistics capabilities to the Texas Gulf Coast, reinforcing the port's role as a leading gateway for vehicle import, export, and distribution.
Central to this initiative is the continued expansion of MMNA's U.S. distribution network, ensuring that new Mitsubishi vehicles reach their associated dealerships in the strategic Gulf and Midwest regions more quickly, efficiently, and with a view to long-term profitability.
MMNA, an Amports client since 1983 with operations at the ports of Baltimore (Maryland) and Jacksonville (Florida), leverages Port Freeport's strategic location and coordinated services to establish a more efficient and agile process for vehicle transportation from port arrival to market.
Port Freeport's proximity to one of the largest automotive markets in the United States offers Mitsubishi Motors a logistical advantage, fostering a more agile and flexible supply chain, while reducing overland transport distances and improving delivery times.
"As we continue to focus our efforts on implementing Momentum 2030, our mid-term business plan, the addition of Port Freeport to our U.S. distribution system will be key to improving efficiency, reducing waste, and streamlining deliveries to our dealer partners across the Gulf and Midwest," stated Ken Konieczka, Senior Vice President of Sales Operations for MMNA.
MMNA began its operations at Port Freeport on April 28, 2026, with the arrival of over 500 vehicles in April alone. On July 1, an inauguration ceremony was held at Port Freeport, attended by representatives from Mitsubishi Motors North America, Amports, and Port Freeport, marking the official launch of the collaboration and the continued growth of automotive activity at the port.
The event coincided with the arrival of the Höegh Sunrise, a brand-new Aurora-class vessel from Höegh Autoliners, which transported Mitsubishi vehicles to Freeport. As the fifth vessel of this new generation of eco-friendly car carriers, the Höegh Sunrise reflects ongoing investments in more sustainable maritime transport and supply chain solutions.
