Kalmar was selected by the Port of Helsingborg as a supplier of electric reachstackers, under a six-year framework agreement that allows for the possible acquisition of up to nine machines.
Christina Argelius, Technical Director of the Port of Helsingborg, stated that "this framework agreement represents an important step in our transition towards lower-emission port operations. Thanks to this agreement, we can continue to replace diesel machinery in a structured and long-term manner, in line with our overall investment plan and energy strategy. Electrification also brings new requirements in terms of infrastructure, charging, and daily operations, and having a partner with solid technical expertise is fundamental as we expand our operations."
Eric Wass, Sales Representative for Kalmar Sweden, added that "with rising fuel costs and increasing pressure to improve efficiency and reduce emissions, electrification offers a stable and secure path for terminals. We are pleased to announce the signing of this framework agreement with the Port of Helsingborg, which will help them advance on their journey towards a zero-emission future."
The Port of Helsingborg, located in southern Sweden on the coast of the Øresund Strait, is the country's second-largest container port and a vital hub for maritime, road, and rail traffic. The terminal has made significant investments to mitigate challenges related to global climate change and to address the climate impact and energy consumption in transport and terminal operations.
One of the most significant initiatives in this regard is the electrification of the port's cargo handling equipment. The port's equipment fleet already includes a Kalmar electric reachstacker, delivered in early 2024.
