Shipping company Maersk received the container ship "Tema Maersk", a new vessel designed to operate with methanol and compatible with ethanol, as part of its decarbonization and fleet modernization strategy. The naming ceremony took place at the Yangzijiang Shipbuilding shipyard in China, consolidating a new step towards more sustainable maritime operations.
The vessel is part of a series of six container ships with a capacity of 9,000 TEUs incorporated into the company's fleet renewal plan. It is equipped with a state-of-the-art engine developed by the Swiss company WinGD, capable of operating with methanol and compatible with ethanol, expanding energy alternatives for maritime transport. The initiative seeks to strengthen operational flexibility and respond to the challenges of the energy transition in global supply chains.
The incorporation of the "Tema Maersk" reflects the growing adoption of low-emission technologies in international maritime transport and the sector's commitment to decarbonization goals. These investments contribute to improving the sustainability of shipping operations, strengthening logistical resilience, and moving towards a more efficient maritime industry aligned with future global environmental demands.
