Two vessels collided in the Bonny Inner Anchorage, Nigeria on 20 May, leaving crewmembers injured and triggering an oil spill in the area. Both vessels await for pending damage assessment and investigation.

The incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. local time when the Nigeria registered oil tanker Lady Martina collided with the Singapore-flagged cargo vessel Maersk Valparaiso. The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) immediately deployed 10 armed personnel of the Deep Blue Forward Operating Base (FOB) onboard DB 214, one of the interceptor boats under the Deep Blue Project, to the scene of the incident.
Five crewmembers aboard the Lady Martina reportedly suffered varying degrees of injuries and were evacuated by FOB personnel and were provided medical attention. An oily sheen was observed in the waters following the collision.
NIMASA reported that it has set up monitoring for the situation and is commencing an environmental impact assessment while taking necessary steps to mitigate the spread of oil.
Following the collision, the Lady Martina drifted ashore and is currently aground on the Bonny Channel. The exact source of oil spill has not yet been disclosed by the NIMASA .
The Maersk Valparaiso was aground in the Bonny Inner Anchorage on 21 May. The next day the vessel refloated and is at anchor at Onn Port awaiting further assessment and repairs. Maersk has formally reported the incident to NIMASA, and an investigation has been launched into the collision.
