The Port of Venice hosted the ceremony where Viking christened the Viking Mira, the newest ship in the cruise line's ocean fleet. It features staterooms with balconies, elegant Scandinavian design, bright public spaces, and numerous al fresco dining options. Classified as a small ship, it has a gross tonnage of 54,300 tons and 499 staterooms with a capacity for 998 passengers.
Rebecca "Becky" Webb Wilson, a prominent lawyer, author, photographer, and philanthropist, served as the godmother for the ceremony. The Viking Mira will continue its inaugural season sailing the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. She has dedicated her career to public service, philanthropy, and cultural engagement.
"We are proud to welcome the new Viking Mira to our award-winning fleet of elegant sister ships. We are also very honored to have Rebecca as our new Viking godmother. Her lifelong commitment to public service, exploration, and cultural understanding is an inspiration to us all," stated Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking.
During the christening ceremony, the godmother used a Viking axe to cut a ribbon that released a bottle of Norwegian aquavit, which broke against the ship's hull. Guests also enjoyed performances by Sissel Kyrkjebø, one of the world's most prominent crossover sopranos and godmother of the Viking Jupiter.
