Hapag-Lloyd Cruises' Hanseatic Spirit underwent extensive renovations during a 10-day docking period at Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven, receiving updates to public areas, spa facilities and restaurant spaces before resuming cruise operations.
June 16, 2026
Hanseatic Spirit underwent its first scheduled dry dock in Bremerhaven, Germany. The vessel, commissioned in 2021, spent 10 days at Lloyd shipyard, where shipyard staff and crew members carried out comprehensive renovation work in the hotel area. The project included aesthetic improvements in the spa area and replacement of numerous carpets and tiles. The mandatory five-yearly inspection was also completed during the docking period.
Isolde Susset, MD Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, said: "Hapag-Lloyd Cruises enjoys a trusting partnership with the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven. The renovations on board the Hanseatic Spirit demonstrate the professional and dedicated way in which the Lloyd shipyard team works. We are delighted to present the refurbished relaxation areas to our guests."
Lloyd shipyard previously worked on sister ships Hanseatic nature in 2023 and Hanseatic inspiration in 2024, as well as EUROPA in 2024.
The renovation programme covered multiple areas throughout the vessel. In the spa area, a new stove was installed in the Finnish sauna, while the mosaic walls in the spa showers and steam bath were refurbished.
The Hanseatic Restaurant received fresh paint and new carpeting. Other areas including the French speciality restaurant "l'esprit," the Observation Lounge and reception were fitted with new floor coverings featuring a coordinated colour scheme and consistent design concept. Selected cabin and suite showers were also renewed.
On June 12, the expedition ship left the floating dock in Bremerhaven and welcomed passengers at the Columbuskaje pier for its first cruise following the dry dock. On Friday evening, HANSEATIC spirit departed on an eight-day cruise to Rotterdam, Scheveningen, Zeebrugge, Texel, Sylt, Helgoland and Hamburg.
On June 20, the vessel will commence its 10-day "Wild Scotland" expedition before beginning its Arctic season. The summer programme includes voyages in Northwest Greenland and the Canadian Arctic, followed by Western European itineraries and South African destinations in late summer.
