Ecuador-Canada FTA opens access to 600 products with zero tariffs

Ecuador and Canada have signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that will strengthen bilateral trade relations and expand preferential access for Ecuadorian exportable goods to the Canadian market. The agreement will allow 99.6% of national exports to enter with zero tariffs and will benefit more than 600 Ecuadorian products.

The treaty consists of 29 chapters covering trade in goods and services, investments, e-commerce, transparency, labor and environmental issues, gender, SMEs, indigenous peoples, and dispute resolution. Additionally, it incorporates protection mechanisms for strategic agricultural products and improved conditions for the import of raw materials, inputs, and capital goods.

The entry into force of the agreement will strengthen the competitiveness of Ecuadorian exports and facilitate their access to a market of nearly 40 million consumers. It will also favor the development of logistics and maritime transport chains linked to trade, promoting investment, market diversification, and the growth of foreign trade.
