Master Faces Investigation After Fisherman Sickens and Dies Without Medevac
Authorities in Argentina are investigating the death of fisherman Matias Oscar Vilchez, 37, aboard the fishing vessel Don Nicola. The crew member fell ill on April 24 with chest pain while the vessel was 25 nautical miles off Mar del Plata. Despite a Naval Prefecture doctor's order to return to port, the ship did not transit immediately. Vilchez died on April 25 after 17 hours on board. A federal prosecutor opened an inquiry into possible charges of abandonment resulting in death against the captain and the shoreside doctor.
