The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) announced that the Polish Shipping Association is joining as a full member, an organization that brings together shipping companies and shipowners from that country, promoting the development and progress of Poland's merchant fleets and maritime economy.
The Polish maritime industry is dynamic and contributes over USD 3.8 billion in gross value added (GVA) to the national economy.
The incorporation of the Polish Shipping Association into the ICS community further strengthens its commitment to representing a broad and truly global shipping community.
Thomas A. Kazakos, Secretary General of the ICS, said, "We are pleased to welcome the Polish Shipping Association as a member. Poland's significant maritime presence plays a crucial role in global trade and logistics, and we look forward to collaborating to address our common challenges, which include decarbonization, the safety and welfare of seafarers, and digitalization. We must work together as a sector to find the necessary global solutions that ensure our industry is sustainable and efficient for future generations. Collaboration fosters opportunities, and together with our members, we are best positioned to achieve this."
Marcin Talwik, Director of the Polish Shipping Association, commented, "The accession, through a joint delegation of two Polish shipping organizations, to the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) in London represents a fundamental step to strengthen the international representation of Polish shipowners. As the leading global body in the maritime sector, the ICS defines key policies on regulation, safety, and decarbonization, giving Polish shipowners a direct voice in decision-making at a global level."
"This initiative facilitates access to strategic knowledge, best practices, and high-level industry networks, while strengthening the position of the Polish maritime sector worldwide. The joint membership of the Polish Shipowners' Association (ZAP) and the Polish Association of Shipping Companies (PZPZ) in the ICS, following their previous entry into ECSA, underscores the unity and global ambitions of the sector," added Talwik.
The ICS is comprised of national shipowners' associations from around the world, from over 40 countries and territories in Asia, Europe, America, and Africa, covering the vast majority of the world's merchant fleet.
