During his visit to the facilities of the Paita Port Terminal (Piura), the Minister of Transport and Communications, Aldo Prieto, supervised the progress of the port's development, which includes an investment plan of USD 311 million, confirming its sustained growth, as well as the execution of important projects that reinforce its strategic role in the north of the country.
During the visit, the terminal's operability and logistical capacity were evaluated with inspections in key areas such as the container area, scanners, multipurpose docks, and pier, in addition to the control center, noting advancements in infrastructure, efficiency, and technology. In 2025 alone, it achieved a historic record by moving over 3,439,718 tons of cargo, 414,639 TEUs, and 669 vessels.
"The Paita Port Terminal ranks first nationally in refrigerated containers and consolidates its position as the main logistics hub in northern Peru, boosting agricultural and hydrobiological exports," said Minister Aldo Prieto. Its strategic location precisely connects Peruvian production with international markets, highlighting products such as grapes, blueberries, avocados, mangoes, and coffee, which are in high international demand.
Among the modernization projects, the Paita Antepuerto (fore-port) and the improvement of access roads stand out, which include areas for cargo vehicles, information and communication systems, control booths, among others, in order to organize traffic and decongest the port area and the urban area.
Likewise, the implementation of a landslide containment system and the expansion of reefer racks (refrigerated container connection platform) are being considered; furthermore, it has approved technical files for the acquisition of mobile cranes, as well as the dredging of the maneuvering area and the berthing area of the port terminal.
On the other hand, in the social sphere, infrastructure projects in education, health, and sports stand out, which have directly benefited more than 20,000 citizens in the region, thanks to the transfer of over S/ 68.5 million to the Paita Social Fund, coming from 3% of the port terminal's income.
Finally, the MTC (Ministry of Transport and Communications) highlights the strategic importance of the Paita Port Terminal for the competitiveness of Peruvian foreign trade and reaffirmed the sector's commitment, through the National Port Authority, to continue promoting the development of modern, efficient port infrastructure aligned with the country's economic growth needs.
