The National Port System remained dynamic during April. In that month, the country's maritime and river ports registered 1,763 ship arrivals and 1,750 departures, figures that represent increases of 8% and 5.5%, respectively, compared to the same period of the previous year, reported the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) through the National Port Authority (APN).
It noted that the result confirms the positive trend observed during the first months of the year and reflects the growth of port activity, a key component for foreign trade, territorial integration, and economic development.
Of the total arrivals registered in April, 33.3% corresponded to maritime terminals and 66.7% to river ports, it indicated.
Greater Economic Activity
"The sustained growth of port movement reflects greater economic and commercial activity in the country. Our ports play a strategic role in boosting exports, domestic supply, regional connectivity, and job creation," highlighted the Minister of Transport and Communications, Aldo Prieto Barrera.
He noted that in the maritime sector, 17 ports, led by Callao, handled 587 arrivals and 569 departures, which meant a growth of 8.7% and 3.1%, respectively, compared to April 2025.
The largest participation corresponded to container ships (178), followed by bulk carriers (170), tankers (140), general cargo vessels (35), fishing vessels (21), ro-ro or roll-on/roll-off vessels (15), passenger vessels (6), and other types (22), he specified.
Meanwhile, he continued, five river ports, headed by Iquitos, registered 1,176 arrivals and 1,181 departures, with increases of 7.6% and 6.8%, respectively, compared to April of the previous year.
"In this area, the movement of vessels classified as passenger (406), passenger and cargo (92), pushers (55), general cargo (45), gliders (23), in addition to other types (555) predominated," he finally stated.
