The Minister of Transport and Communications (MTC), Aldo Prieto Barrera, held a working meeting with authorities from the National Port Company (ENAPU), an entity attached to the sector, where they presented the modernization plan for the ports it manages nationwide. This initiative seeks to strengthen port infrastructure, optimize services, and enhance the country's logistical competitiveness, within the framework of its 2026 management axes.
As part of the strategy, ENAPU presented a portfolio of projects aimed at increasing the operational efficiency of the ports. Among the main interventions is the modernization of the Ilo – Moquegua port terminal, which will require an investment of over S/200 million and seeks to boost the economic and commercial development of the southern part of the country.
The plan also includes improvements in the Amazonian port system, with interventions in the ports of Iquitos and Yurimaguas to strengthen logistical connectivity with Brazil and boost cargo transport. Likewise, a reengineering of port services nationwide was announced, along with the relaunch of the Port Training and Capacity Building Institute (Infocap), aimed at strengthening the technical capabilities of the sector, among others.
During the meeting, the head of the MTC highlighted the coordination between the sector and ENAPU to consolidate more competitive ports aligned with the demands of international trade. He pointed out that port strengthening will improve the national logistics chain, facilitate commercial exchange, and generate greater development opportunities for the regions.
ENAPU, founded 56 years ago, currently manages the ports of Ilo, Iquitos, Yurimaguas, Huacho–Supe, and the Peruvian pier in Arica, Chile, moving nearly 800,000 tons of cargo annually.
The MTC reaffirmed its commitment to continue promoting actions to consolidate a more efficient, sustainable, and competitive national port system, for the benefit of the country's economic growth and development.
