The president of the Port Authority of Santander (APS), César Díaz, reported this morning on the completion of the renovation and reinforcement works on the security fencing located between the Raos control point and the railway access to the port.
This project was executed by the company ACEINSA CANTÁBRICO and involved an investment of 290,935 euros by the APS.
Díaz highlighted that this intervention "improves the protection of our facilities, ensuring a safer, more efficient port area adapted to the operational and security demands inherent in a strategic infrastructure."
The work involved installing a new 4.5-meter high fence in this area, similar to those implemented in the more urban areas of the port. Additionally, it incorporates curved tubes at the top to make climbing difficult and prevent potential intrusions, also acting as a deterrent.
The project also included the renovation of the lighting and the implementation of video surveillance systems, improving both visibility and access control in this area of the port facility.
As explained by the president of the port administration, these types of actions are fundamental "to reinforce the security of the facilities, prevent unauthorized access to potentially dangerous areas, and guarantee the protection of a critical infrastructure for Cantabria's logistical and industrial activity." He also emphasized that the new fencing contributes to improving operational control and the traceability of movements within the port area.
The renovation of the fencing is part of the Port Authority of Santander's 2025-2029 Investment Plan, a document that outlines a public-private investment of 270.3 million euros aimed, as Díaz stated, at "increasing the capacity and modernizing the port's infrastructure."
Key projects included in this plan are the construction of Raos 6 dock, the improvement of Raos 8 dock, the expansion of the automobile silo, the urbanization of the curvilinear triangle, and various actions in docks, digitalization, sustainability, innovation, and port security.
