July 10, 2026
Santander, July 10, 2026. The closing of traffic data for the first half of the year at the Port of Santander shows an increase of 1.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. For the president of the Port Authority of Santander (APS), César Díaz, this figure represents “the maintenance of a sustained upward trend over time” that places the Cantabrian infrastructure “on the right path to achieve an eight-million-ton port”. “Management planning and a significant investment commitment in infrastructure, digitalization, and sustainability to improve service to our clients are the key to this growth,” he assures.
The president of the APS highlights, among the ongoing works, some such as the construction of Raos 6 dock, the expansion of the automobile silo, the increase in capacity at Raos 2, or the rehabilitation and improvement of several of the port's docks such as Raos 8 or the North Bank dock.
Additionally, it includes other interventions such as the adaptation of the plots in the Wissocq industrial park, the urbanization of part of the Logistics Activities Zone, several port buildings, the remodeling of the entrance control to the Maliaño docks, the equipping of border control, improvements in the protection plan, the establishment of electricity supply at the docks, or the universal accessibility and climate change adaptation plans.
“We also have a team and a port community that are doing extraordinary work, which has allowed us to lay the groundwork to overcome the challenges arising from the global logistical uncertainty we are experiencing,” he adds.
The objective, as Díaz explains, is “to continue increasing the capacity and efficiency of our facilities, advance in synchromodality, and improve our offer at public docks. It is about creating the necessary conditions to attract new investments and generate more economic activity, employment, and wealth for the region”.
Year-on-Year and Accumulated Traffic Data First Half 2026
Accumulated traffic in the first half of the year reached 3,492,124 tons, representing an increase of 1.3% compared to the same period in 2025, when 3,446,037 tons were recorded.
During this period, general cargo, which represents 54% of the total cargo passing through the port, increased by 0.7%, while liquid bulk increased by 3.5% and solid bulk by 2%. The rebound in solid bulk is noteworthy, especially in agri-food traffic.
Also noteworthy is the growth in container traffic, which stood at 85,770 TEUs, 7% more than in the first half of 2025, and automobile traffic, with 174,503 units, 3.4% more than during the first six months of the previous year.
Meanwhile, the year-on-year traffic of the Port of Santander, between July 2025 and June 2026, amounted to 7,197,319 tons, placing the Cantabrian infrastructure 1.4% above the same period of the previous year.
