Raos 8 Dock in Service After Refurbishment Works

Once the asphalt works of the second phase were completed, the infrastructure has regained its original state and is now fully operational.

The president of the Port Authority of Santander (APS), César Díaz, highlighted that the action “allows for the recovery of the optimal operational capacity of the dock, also guaranteeing a more efficient provision of port services”.

Santander, August 13, 2026. Following the refurbishment works of the second phase of Raos 8, intended for wheeled traffic for both import and export, the dock is now fully operational.

Thanks to this intervention, as explained by the president of the Port Authority of Santander (APS), César Díaz, “we have restored the initial state of an infrastructure that was already twenty years old and presented significant unevenness as a result of continuous use.”

“Our duty is to invest in both safety and efficiency and economic development,” he stressed. In this regard, he added, the maintenance of public docks “is essential to achieve optimal operational capacity of the dock and guarantee operators an effective provision of services.”

The area, which has been intervened in two consecutive phases to reduce disruptions, is bounded by the caisson dock to its north and by a diaphragm wall at its eastern end, occupying a strip of the Raos 8 dock esplanade 150 meters long by 54 meters wide.

At present, however, work continues on reinforcing and sealing the existing containment at the eastern end of the dock to ensure the confinement and stability of the ground, “without affecting the use of the dock.”

The works, which are being carried out by the company ACEINSA CANTÁBRICO S.A, represent an investment of 2.7 million euros from the APS budget.

Investment Plan

This work, like other prominent ones such as the vertical car silo, the new Raos 6 dock, or the urban access to the port, are included in the APS Investment Plan. A document with a 2030 horizon that, thanks to resources generated by the port administration itself, foresees public-private actions worth 245 million euros.

The president of the APS reiterated that the objective is to consolidate the Port as “a strategic reference point on the European Atlantic facade,” and to continue working, together with the Government of Cantabria, “in revitalizing the regional economy by generating employment and business opportunities for companies in our hinterland,” as befits an entity “that contributes 13.7% to the GDP and 11% to employment in Cantabria,” he concluded.
