Santander, July 29, 2026. The president of the Santander Port Authority (APS), César Díaz, has explained the entity's investment forecasts for the next five years, as outlined in the Santander Port Business Plan 2026-2030.
A Business Plan that has already been validated by Puertos del Estado (State Ports), as a preliminary step to its definitive approval, and which annually defines the main management objectives, economic forecasts, investments, and operational priorities of the organization, with the aim of “anticipating the demands that the market will pose in the coming years, optimizing the operation of the facilities and strengthening their competitiveness, guaranteeing an efficient and quality service to the companies in our environment”, as stated by Díaz.
The document prepared by the APS foresees for the period 2026-2030 an own investment of 130 million euros in actions related to the construction of new docks and the rehabilitation and improvement of existing ones, port-city actions, urbanizations and paving, port buildings, rail and road accessibility, security and protection, environmental sustainability, energy, digitalization, and innovation.
“Furthermore, we want to accelerate this investment effort as much as possible, which means that more than 65% of this total APS investment is concentrated in the first two years: 85 million out of 130 is programmed for 2026 and 2027”, Díaz stated.
Specifically, in terms of infrastructure, the execution of Raos 6 dock, the expansion of the car silo, the increase in capacity at Raos 2, and the rehabilitation and improvement of several of the port's docks such as Raos 8 or the North Bank dock stand out.
In addition, other interventions include the adaptation of the Wissocq industrial estate plots, the urbanization of the Logistics Activities Zone, maintenance dredging, several port buildings, the remodeling of the entrance control to the Maliaño docks, the equipping of border control, improvements to the perimeter fencing of the port area, the establishment of electricity supply at the docks, and universal accessibility and climate change adaptation plans.
For César Díaz, this is an “especially ambitious” Plan that demonstrates the “firm investment commitment” of the APS to the future of the Port of Santander. “The planned actions will allow us to increase the capacity and efficiency of our facilities, advance in synchromodality, and improve the services offered at public docks, creating the necessary conditions to attract new investments and continue growing sustainably,” he declared.
“It is important to remember that port authorities are conceived as financially self-sufficient organizations, so the investments we undertake must be faced with the economic resources generated by our own port activity”, Díaz highlighted.
The Plan also includes the forecast of investments to be undertaken by private initiative, totaling 115 million euros for the period 2026-2030. “It is a figure that reflects a clear symptom of confidence. The fact that the private sector accompanies the APS in the execution of investments, in addition to being a clear example of public-private collaboration, is, as I said, the best sign of confidence in the Port of Santander and its future”, Díaz affirmed.
These are investments that will allow for the expansion of storage capacity, the implementation of new industrial facilities, the increase in berths for recreational boats, or the improvement of concessions in service.
And he added: “the objective is to consolidate the Port of Santander as a strategic and reference infrastructure on the northern facade, capable of generating more economic activity, employment, and wealth for the entire region”.
