The U.S. forces successfully rescued all 14 Indian stranded seafarers of the cargo vessel MSV Virat 1 MNV 2067 after the vessel became disabled off the Oman Coast on 14 June.
The vessel suffered an engine failure, and the crew had to abandon the vessel. Responding to the emergency at approximately 2:00 a.m. EST, a U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon aircraft arrived on scene and provided a life raft to assist the stranded seafarers.
Eleven crew members were rescued by the Ro-Ro cargo vessel Jabal Ali 9 from the life raft, while the remaining three were recovered by a U.S. Navy Seahawk helicopter launched from the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln after their life raft capsized. Later, the rescued three were transferred to Jabal Ali 9.
The Indian Embassy in Oman reported that all 14 crewmembers have been rescued and are in good health onboard Jabal Ali 9 heading to Mumbai.
