The Tanzania-flagged general cargo vessel Golden Star 1 sank about 6 km off Batam Island, Indonesia. The vessel carrying 9 crew members was safely rescued by the Indonesian Authority.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the incident occurred on 5 June at around 10:30 pm Singapore time, prompting navigational warnings for vessels transiting the area and requests to report any containers sighted adrift. No oil pollution was observed by authorities, and Straits of Malacca and Singapore vessel traffic remained unaffected.
Golden Star 1 is a 1995-built vessel that measures 177 meters in length and 28 meters in width. The cargo vessel is operated and managed by Pancon Shipping and Marine.
