Pacific International Lines (PIL) continues to strengthen its presence in South Africa with the launch of Ubuntu Express (UBX), a new weekly service offering a direct and extensive connection between Central and Southern China, Taiwan, Singapore, and South Africa. This service further reinforces PIL's extensive network in Africa.
"The Ubuntu Express is introduced in response to the growing trade demand between Asia and South Africa, driven by booming consumer markets, expanding industrial activity, and an increased flow of agricultural products, temperature-sensitive goods, and manufactured items. By offering enhanced connectivity and competitive transit times, UBX enables customers to transport cargo more efficiently between major production hubs in Asia and high-growth consumer and export markets in South Africa," PIL stated in a public announcement.
The service, named after the South African philosophy of "Ubuntu," which emphasizes humanity, community, and interconnectedness, reflects PIL's customer-centric approach to creating shipping solutions that foster shared growth and greater trade integration between regions.
"PIL has been serving Africa for decades, developing deep market knowledge, strong partnerships, and a trusted network across the continent," stated William Ho, General Manager of Long-Haul Services at PIL.
"The launch of Ubuntu Express reflects our ongoing commitment to expanding our presence in the region, complementing our current services to increase capacity and better support the growing trade demand between Asia and South Africa. With our modern vessels deployed on these services, we offer our customers reliable, competitive, and comprehensive solutions for their entire supply chain," the executive added.
The port calls for the Ubuntu Express are Shanghai – Ningbo – Kaohsiung – Shekou – Singapore – Durban – Cape Town – Singapore – Shanghai.
