Port of Hueneme welcomed NYK Line's Elder Leader on its maiden voyage and its first U.S. call, made at its docks.
This new-generation vessel can transport nearly 7,000 vehicles and runs on liquefied natural gas, reducing CO2 emissions by over 30%.
It is also the first shore power-ready car carrier to visit Hueneme. Once this terminal system is completed, ships like the Elder Leader will be able to connect to the electrical grid while docked, further reducing emissions and improving local air quality.
To commemorate this historic milestone, Port of Hueneme presented Captain Kogo and the crew with a plaque in recognition of the vessel's inaugural call.
"Thanks to NYK Line and the crew of the Elder Leader for choosing the Port of Hueneme as your first port of call in the United States. Together, we are promoting a cleaner and more sustainable future for global trade," Port of Hueneme communicated.
